How We Research

Updated on

Every guide on DandyNest starts with one question: will this base fit your mattress, your bedroom and your setup?

Here is how we answer it.

1. We start with size and fit

Adjustable bases come in sizes from twin XL to split king, and not every base works with every frame. We check the sizes each maker sells, the weight limit it states and whether the base sits on legs, on a platform or inside an existing frame.

We also note the mattress types the maker says the base works with.

2. We compare specs and features

We look at the head and foot lift, the remote, motor noise, wall-hugging design, USB ports and the warranty terms the maker lists. Massage, zero gravity and lumbar are feature names, so we describe what the maker says each one does and make no health claims.

When a detail comes from the maker, we say so.

3. We look at buyer feedback

We read through what buyers report after setting up a base. We look for patterns, like tricky assembly, remote problems or a squeaky motor.

One angry review doesn't sink a product. A pattern does.

4. We score each product

Our score weighs specs, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. A base that suits a couple on a split king may score lower in a guide for a single twin XL bed.

Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.

5. We keep pages up to date

Products change, and some disappear from stores. Sizes and kits also vary by model, so we check the exact size before we write about it.

When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.

What our picks are not

Our picks are research, not lab tests. We don't claim to have used every base we cover.

An adjustable base is bedroom furniture with a motor, not a medical device. We make no health promises, and for questions about sleeping positions or a health condition, ask a health professional.

Follow the maker's manual for the weight limit, setup and care, and don't open the motor or change the wiring.
